New Covid-19 infections in Sabah drop further to 2,174 cases

KOTA KINABALU – The daily infections in Sabah have slid by 700 cases to 2,174 cases, from 2,874 cases yesterday.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the significant drop in the daily cases is due to the clearing of backlog reports which are mostly in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan.

Masidi noted seven districts which are still recording three-digit cases.

They are Kota Kinabalu with 555 cases, Penampang 252, Putatan 223, Papar 204, Tuaran 181, Keningau 105 and Kota Belud 101.

“Although the daily cases have significantly dropped, the percentage of sporadic cases remains high with 62.74% and a surge in cases can be triggered at any time,” he said in a statement tonight.

On PICKids, Masidi said 45,381 of the children eligible for the vaccine had taken their jabs.

A total of 411,400 children aged five to 11 are eligible for vaccination in Sabah.

“Some 246 cases today involve children under the age of 11 who have not been vaccinated and 121 of which are children who are not eligible for vaccines under the age of five years old,” he said.

No new clusters were reported but Sabah recorded 11 deaths, all of which may not be in the last 24 hours. – The Vibes, February 28, 2022
