Kota Kinabalu: Sabah recorded 1,176 cases on Friday with 64.54 per cent being sporadic infections, said Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

He said sporadic infections were the main contributor to cases in 24 out of 27 districts in Sabah, with 12 districts recording a rise in cases. He added that certain districts have recorded a significant rise in cases, namely Kota Kinabalu (+91) and Penampang (+74).

“We can conclude that the rise and fall of the daily caseload is greatly influenced by the number of cases registered in districts such as Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Tuaran,” he said in a statement, Friday.

Masidi said Kota Kinabalu topped the list with 356 cases, followed by Penampang (139), Papar (105), Tuaran (81), Tawau (49) and Tambunan (35).

Five deaths were recorded, with two in Keningau and one each in Kota Kinabalu, Ranau and Beaufort while no new clusters were identified. “One education cluster was declared closed, namely the Jalan Terusan Cluster involving a locality in SMK Terusan, Lahad Datu. There are 29 active clusters across Sabah to date,” said Masidi.

He said the majority of cases are mild, with 1,154 out of 1,176 cases being category one and two infections.

“Nine cases are in category three, 10 in category four and three in category five,” he added. Some 1,810 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 1,085 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 8,213 individuals were vaccinated on March 10, of which 6,553 were adults while 124 were teenagers and 1,536 were children.

As of March 10, he said a total of 2,403,393 individuals have completed both doses, of which 76.85 per cent were adults, while 2,535,012 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.40 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 331,749 teenagers have received their first dose, while 315,770 have completed both doses, which is 74.09 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 73,545 children have received their first dose.
