
Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old man was sentenced to nine months’ jail, Monday, for disposing of stolen properties.
Mohd Aiiman Mohd Yazid pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to disposing of a stolen bag containing, among others, a wallet, personal documents, watch and power bank belonging to Rhyme Kassim at 3.32pm on Jan 4, this year in a house at Kg Kohizan, Jalan Kepayan, Kobusak, Penampang.
Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik, prosecuting, told the court that Aiiman, who was arrested by police on Jan 3, led police to the recovery of the stolen bag.
The complainant, who reported the missing properties from Api-Api Centre, identified them as his own.
Aiiman was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.
Aiiman, who was unrepresented, requested leniency by saying that he is married with a child.
He also applied for the sentence to run concurrently with his present jail term for having stolen items.
The prosecution applied for an adequate sentence.
The court ordered Aiiman to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest and ordered the exhibits to be returned to its rightful owner.
In another case, an unemployed man was jailed six months for keeping a stolen smartwatch.
Hazwan Jokisin, 32, admitted to having the stolen gadget belonging to Siti Norshafikah at 9.10am on Jan 20 at the parking lot, Block G, University Apartment in Manggatal.
The court heard from the prosecution that the smartwatch was among items missing from the complainant’s house that was broken into.
Hazman was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
