Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s caseload dipped to a new all-time low of 421 cases on Saturday from 596 the day earlier, due to a significant decrease of cases in a few urban districts.

Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said it was the first time that the caseload fell below the 500 mark since Feb 3. He said Kota Kinabalu recorded a decrease of 44 cases, followed by Penampang (-35), Beaufort (-26), Papar (-22) and Tawau (-17).

“A total of 15 districts recorded a decrease while nine districts recorded a marginal increase. Most districts in Sabah are also showing signs of stabilisation, with 13 districts recording single-digit cases.

“Eleven districts recorded double-digit cases, but only Tuaran (55), Papar (37), Penampang (35), Putatan (27) and Beaufort (25) recorded relatively high figures,” he said in a statement, Saturday.

Masidi said Kota Kinabalu topped the tally with 104 cases, the only district to record a three-digit figure, followed by Tuaran (55), Papar (37), Penampang (35), Putatan (27), Beaufort (25) and Sandakan (17).

Of the 421 caseload, 62.47 per cent were sporadic infections while 24.47 per cent were close contacts.

Two deaths were recorded, with one each in Tawau and Kota Kinabalu, while no new clusters were identified.

“Another cluster was declared closed, which is the Access Menawo Cluster in Keningau. There are 18 active clusters in Sabah to date,” Masidi added.

He said the majority of cases are mild, with 412 out of 421 cases being category one and two infections, which is 97.86 per cent.

“Two cases are in category three, four in category four and three in category five,” he added.

Some 1,100 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from the hospital while 623 patients are currently receiving treatment at hospitals, low risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs), prisons/temporary detention centres and private facilities.

On Sabah’s immunisation programme, Masidi said 6,126 individuals were vaccinated on March 18, of which 4,726 were adults while 101 were teenagers and 1,299 were children.

As of March 18, he said a total of 2,405,099 individuals have completed both doses, of which 76.89 per cent were adults, while 2,550,178 have gotten their first dose, of which 78.45 per cent were adults.

Masidi added that a total of 332,210 teenagers have received their first dose, while 316,210 have completed both doses, which is 74.19 per cent of the teenage population. A total of 86,797 children have received their first dose.
