Kota Kinabalu: Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya urged the public not to fall complacent with standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance when celebrating the coming Hari Raya Aidilftri festivities.

“Amid the cheerfulness and the flexibility to gather together again, do not forget that we must always abide by the Covid-19 SOPs and the guidelines outlined by the Government.

“As we celebrate the upcoming Aidilfitri celebrations, we must continue to ensure our safety and healthy.

“Abide by the SOPs in our daily interactions so that we may dutifully carry out our responsibility in curbing risk of Covid-19 transmissions among the community,”

He said in his welcoming speech during a breaking of fast (buka puasa) programme at the Sabah International Convention Center, here, Sunday.

Shahlemey hosted the buka puasa to celebrate youths from the Rumah Anak Yatim As Sakinah, members of the press and volunteers from the N24 Tg Keramat Operation Center (OCN24) in the spirit of Ramadan.

During the ceremony, Hari Raya goodies were distributed to some 30 orphans and underprivileged youths as well as members of the press and OCN24 volunteers.

Shahelmey hoped that it would uplift the spirits of orphanage residents after two years of not being able to conduct the annual programme due to the pandemic.

He said the ceremony was also to thank the members of the press who had provided coverage of the Ministry’s activities and initiatives, as well as the OCN24 volunteers for their service to the community since it began operating in 2020.
