Drugs: Seven arrested in Tawau raids

TAWAU: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department seized a pack containing 1,039.82gm of suspected methamphetamine worth about RM36,000 from two men at a hypermarket car park, here, on Monday.

District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the two suspects were arrested and their vehicles – an Isuzu Dmax and a Honda Civic – were seized.

During the 1.40pm raid, one of the suspects tried to run away.

Jasmin said RM50,000 in cash was also seized from the suspects, adding all the seized items were brought to the Tawau police station, while the suspects were remanded for seven days until April 11.

This case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Earlier, Tawau police also arrested five men, including a Malaysian, and seized a total of 5.16gm of syabu in several raids.

Four of the suspects tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
