Manchester United are set to make an opening offer for Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff.

The Mirror says United are ready to test Newcastle's resolve to keep Longstaff by making a 30million bid for the midfielder.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made Longstaff a priority signing as he looks to rebuild his team around the best young British talent.

But Toon value the 21-year-old Geordie at 50million and believe that United's 50million capture of Aaron Wan-Bissaka has set the benchmark.

United feel Newcastle's asking price is too much for a player who has made just 13 senior appearances at St James' Park and who looked to be heading back to Blackpool on loan until Rafa Benitez handed him his Premier League debut at Anfield on Boxing Day.

Old Trafford bosses feels 30million is a more realistic price.
