THE Adamson Lady Falcons and the three-peat seeking NU Lady Bulldogs clash for an early standings lead at the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on Wednesday.
Winners of their respective first games of the season, the Lady Falcons and the Lady Bulldogs face off at 11 a.m., succeeding the match of their male counterparts at 9 a.m.
Another men’s game between the UE Red Warriors and the FEU Tamaraws is set at 3 p.m., while the women’s match featuring the same schools conclude the game day at 5 p.m.
The Lady Falcons pounded on the Ateneo Blue Eagles, 25-19, 25-18, 25-10, to get their campaign going last Sunday.
Last year’s rookie of the year Shaina Nitura banged 16 points to lead Adamson to the win, as the Lady Falcons gear up for a tough match against the defending champs.
“We really need to help each other because NU (National University) is not an easy opponent,” said Adamson coach JP Yude.
“We know they’re a strong team, but of course, we’ll do our best to get the win by God’s will this Wednesday. We just have to go back to the drawing board and prepare properly so we’ll be ready for Wednesday.”
Opposite Nitura is her former Adamson high school teammate Sam Cantada, who made a rousing collegiate debut last Sunday.
Cantada willed NU in the clutch as the Lady Bulldogs denied the UST Golden Tigresses, 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24.
The super rookie finished with 21 points on top of 14 excellent receptions and five digs.
As a team, coach Regine Diego said the Lady Bulldogs have a lot of fine-tuning to do.
“I don’t think any team is playing their best yet. It’s going to be a long journey, and it will be a learning experience for everyone,” said Diego.
