
MANILA, Philippines — The Alas Pilipinas women’s volleyball national team gave Thailand a tough time before absorbing defeat, 17-25, 25-19, 15-25, 25-18, 10-15, in the Leg 1 of the SEA V.Cup Women’s Division on Saturday night at the Dong Anh Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Alas held a 5-4 lead in the deciding frame with second stringer Mars Alba orchestrating the plays for the nationals.
However, Thailand pulled a 5-0 run courtesy of Ajcharaporn Kongyot.
Bella Belen and Erika Santos gave life to the Philippine team to trail by three 11-9 late in the fifth frame, but the defending champions pulled a 4-1 run with Kongyot slamming the finishing point.
Alas will try to snatch a win over Indonesia tomorrow, Sunday, for a possible bronze medal finish in the tournament.
This is Alas' second consecutive loss after opening its campaign with a straight-set defeat over host Vietnam.
