MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala secured €25,515 (euros) or more than P1.8 million after reaching the Italian Open second round (round of 64) on Wednesday.
World No. 42 Eala defeated Polish Magdalena Frech in the first round, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
Eala could upgrade her prize money to €46,080 or P3.3 million if she beats Chinese Wang Xinyu and enters the third round (round of 32).
