
MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala secured €31,220 (euros) or P2.2 million after reaching the WTA 1000 Madrid Open second round on Wednesday.
Eala defeated Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the first round, 6-3, 6-3.
The lefty netter could upgrade her prize money to €54,110 or P3.8 million if she enters the round of 32.
World No. 44 Eala takes on No. 21 Elise Mertens in the round of 64.
Mertens is seeded No. 19, receiving a first-round bye.
