MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis star Alex Eala is brimming with excitement as she prepares to partner with legendary American icon Venus Williams in the doubles event of the Bad Homburg Open.
For Eala, the opportunity to share the court with Williams is more than just a dream—it’s a rare honor and a chance to learn from one of the greatest players in the sport, especially given Williams’ vast experience and success in doubles competition.
“I’m really excited. Venus Williams is such a trailblazer and continues to do so much and has done so much for the sport,” Eala said in a recent interview.
Williams owns 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, most of which she won alongside her sister, Serena Williams—who recently made a return to competition at the HSBC Championships in London after four years of retirement.
Eala emphasized how much Williams has influenced the growth of women’s tennis and sports as a whole.
“I like to say that women’s tennis has been a trailblazer for women’s sports and she is a big part of why that is,” she added.
The Eala-Williams duo will open their campaign against Australia’s Alexandra Osborne and American Catherine Harrison—a highly anticipated debut for the unlikely but exciting partnership.
