JOHOR BAHRU - Former Umno Supreme Council (MKT) member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi claimed that Tan Sri Annuar Musa’s statement regarding Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) role in the formation of the Negeri Sembilan government was arrogant.

The former Johor legislative assembly speaker said the statement by the Pas Central Working Committee member, which mentioned that BN won 18 seats while PN’s seven seats enabled the formation of a BN-PN government, appeared to suggest that PN had made significant contributions to BN.

“This is what Annuar Musa said on his Facebook... BN won 18 seats. It was not enough to form a government with a simple majority. The seven PN seats not only enabled PN-BN to form a government together, but also secured a two-thirds majority in the State Assembly.

“It sounds arrogant. PN has two major contributions. First, helping BN form a government. Second, helping BN secure a two-thirds majority,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.

In the Negeri Sembilan polls held last Saturday, BN won 18 out of 36 state seats, followed by PH with 11 seats, PN with seven seats, while other parties failed to win any seats.

Meanwhile, Puad added that BN actually had the option of forming a government with Pakatan Harapan (PH), as the combination of 18 BN seats and 11 PH seats was already sufficient to secure a simple majority.

“Actually, a BN-PH government (18+11) could have been formed. But this time, Zahid placed more trust in PN. Zahid wants this formula to continue in Melaka,” he said.

He also believed that the Memorandum of Understanding between BN and PH in the unity government should be ended earlier, claiming that the relationship of trust between both coalitions no longer exists.

“That is why PMX should end the BN-PH MoU in the unity government earlier. There is no longer trust between BN and PH. So why should it continue?” he said.

Previously, BN and PH cooperated in the Federal unity government, while BN and PN reached an electoral understanding for the Negeri Sembilan polls.
