
Kota Kinabalu: It was another fruitful day for the Sabah contingent at the Malaysia Para Games (Para Sukma) in Sarawak as they bagged an additional 16 golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes on day three of the biennial games on Wednesday.
Track and field again contributed the most golds with nine from Elvsius John (discus F57), Doriah Poulus (shot put F44), Fredechi Asri (javelin F40), Shamli Waidi (discus F36), Hanif Burhanudin (men’s shot put F44), Mohd Khairi Military Lorin (men’s javelin F54), Eljoe Gotouh (men’s triple jump T20), Mukhriz Ameer Izuddin Abd Rauf (men’s 200m T47) and Nazwan (men’s 200m T45).
The other seven gold medals came from swimmers Ethan Khoo (men’s 200m individual medley SM14), Sharline Valerie Voo (women’s 100m freestyle S4-S6, 50m backstrokes S4-S6), Wahyu Eqwal Nazrey (men’s 50m backstrokes S4/S5 - national record 47.00s, 100m freestyle S4/S5 - meet record 1:47.91s), Shahafiq Abdullah (men’s 50m butterfly S6-S7 - national record 37.56s) and Abd Halim Mohammad (men’s 50m freestyle - meet record 27.72). The silver medal winners were Charmian Sikajat(shot put F20), Sabarudding Bacho (discus F35), Kartini Nordin (women’s 200m T36), Joviat Joseph (women’s 200m T37), Ivan Jovic Suan (men’s 200m T44), Mohd Nizamuddin Matahir (men’s 200m T38) from track and field.

Read more Two silver medals also came from swimmers Jonathan Wong Zee Siang (men’s 100m freestyle S4/S5 and Chia Faang Jan (men’s 50m backstrokes S4/S5 - national record 1:05.42 in S4) and he also set a new national record in the 100m freestyle in the S4 category despite finishing in fourth place with the combined S4/S5, while the other silver medal was won by Sabariah Sulaiman in table tennis (women’s standing singles 6-8).
The bronze medals came from Samri Butak (javelin F55), Mariana Sandra Rodger (shot put F44), Adeleelin (women’s shot put F44), Freddy (men’s javelin F54), Halimatus Saadiah Madsah (table tennis women’s standing singles 9-10), Louis Simun (men’s 100m butterfly S9) and Stenly Roy Ranius (men’s shot put F13).
At press time Sabah had collected 44 golds, 24 silvers and 18 bronzes to place second in the medal standings while hosts Sarawak extended their lead at the top with 54 gold, 36 silver and 45 bronze medals.
