
An ASI, posted at the Nurmahal police station, has been booked in connection with a road accident, following allegations by a local resident that he drove rashly, caused injuries and fled the spot after the incident.
According to police officials, the case was registered against ASI Vijay Kumar Varalas on the complaint of Harpreet Singh, a resident of Kacha Pakka Behrha village. The complainant alleged that the police official hit his motorcycle with a car and escaped from the scene immediately after the incident.
Nurmahal SHO Labh Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the accused ASI and the police have also initiated an investigation into the matter.
Officials stated that ASI Vijay Kumar, a resident of Siddham Station area under Sadar Nakodar police station, has been serving as a wireless operator at Nurmahal for nearly seven years. The SHO said following the registration of the case, the accused has not reported for duty since Thursday.
Complainant Harpreet Singh alleged that the incident occurred on May 20 around 11:40 am when he was travelling on his motorcycle towards Gurdwara Sahib Teli Morh. He claimed that ASI Vijay Kumar was driving his car negligently and rammed it into his motorcycle, causing minor injuries to him.
The police authorities stated that departmental proceedings would also be initiated against the accused official once he reports for duty. SHO Labh Singh further said senior officials have already been informed about the matter. He added that if the ASI fails to join duty, the police may bring him from his residence to proceed with the legal and departmental action.
