MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said that six international flights and one domestic flight were affected by bad weather on Monday.
CAAP reported that four flights — Air Canada from Vancouver, Emirates from Dubai, Philippine Airlines from San Francisco, and AirAsia Philippines from Bacolod — were diverted to Clark International Airport.
All of these flights were bound for Manila.
The aviation regulator added that three flights — Jin Air and Jeju Air from Seoul, and Scoot Airlines from Singapore — executed missed approaches.
The agency explained that a missed approach (or go-around) is a standard, routine safety maneuver executed when an aircraft cannot safely complete a landing. It is a sign of good pilot decision-making, not an emergency.
Common reasons for this maneuver include poor visibility, an unstable approach, runway obstruction, adverse wind conditions, and air traffic control instructions.
