LAHAD DATU: Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Commander DCP Victor Sanjos urged the public to exercise caution when posting video descriptions and titles online to avoid being misinterpreted.
His advice was in reaction to a social media video with a description and title which implied that a kidnapping almost happened on Mabul Island off Semporna.
He said the title of the video did not give the actual picture and was only to attract viewers.
“I have studied and found nothing wrong with what was said but there are views, opinions or comments of almost being kidnapped, when it did not happen.

He also hoped that in future, those who come to the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone) and wish to attract, share their experiences or promote the area, to be careful with their choice of words.
A couple recently uploaded a video with the words “I almost got kidnapped by pirates. The fisherman might have been informants for the pirates as they asked me to go with them in their boat”.
The nine-minute 40-second video was about their experience while on Mabul.
Meanwhile, Victor flagged off participants of the Sail Malaysia: Passage to the East 2023 Programme at W Bay Payang, on Tuesday.
He hoped the participants would enjoy Sabah’s beauty, culture and food and that they would share with their family and friends that Sabah is a safe place to visit.
A dozen yachts with 32 participants took part in the Sail Malaysia Programme, sailing from Kudat on July 26 and scheduled to end in Tawau on Aug 26.
