For 30 couples in Pasig City, Valentine’s Day marked not only a civil ceremony but a live performance from one of the country’s most visible bands.
Ben&Ben surprised newlyweds at this year’s “Kasalang Bayan,” the city government’s annual mass wedding, with a performance of their latest single “Duyan.” The ceremony was officiated by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.
The nine-piece folk-pop group performed Duyan, a song that originated as the wedding vow of frontman Miguel Benjamin. The band later developed it into a single and included it as the concluding track of their “Mahiwaga Trilogy.”
“We’re entering a chapter of our lives where we feel like this is all uncharted territory: becoming full-fledged adults, being partners and spouses. Like the millions of people who are in this phase of their lives, there are many challenges. Things are never easy. We also get to discover many things about ourselves that we may not have really known before — our strengths, our weaknesses, and so much more,” Miguel said.
“Every step that we take is made with unconditional love. That serves as our guide and our anchor in this journey, no matter how imperfect life is. This is the message we would like to impart with our song Duyan,” he added.
In addition to Duyan, the band performed “Araw-Araw” and “Pagtingin,” the earlier songs in the trilogy, which traces a thematic arc on romantic relationships.
The music video for Duyan features actors Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos, who also appeared in the previous installments of the series.
The Pasig City government organizes “Kasalang Bayan” for residents who wish to wed in a formal ceremony without shouldering the usual costs. The city covers expenses related to the event, including reception meals for six guests per couple.
“Many thanks to Ben&Ben! The couples who got married were very delighted. It was an unexpected surprise for the couples, and made this day extra special for them,” Sotto said.
Duyan was released through Sony Music Entertainment and is available on digital streaming platforms.
