
TAWAU: Fire destroyed a nine-unit block of workers’ houses on Jalan Pengkalan Kalabakan, about 91km from here, Friday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Jemishin Ujin said seven firefighters were dispatched after receiving an emergency call at 3.01pm.
Advertisement“Ten members from the Kalabakan Volunteer Fire Brigade arrived at the scene at 3.10pm, while our team arrived at 4.40pm due to the distance,” he said in a statement.
The block of non-permanent housing, measuring 40 x 80 square feet, was completed destroyed.

Read more Jemishin said the Kalabakan brigade initially used water from a nearby pool and transport pumps to extinguish the fire, while the BBP team conducted overhaul operations and gathered additional information.
“The fire was brought under control by 5.09pm and the operation concluded at 5.47 pm after ensuring the site was safe,” he added.
