SHAH ALAM - Barisan Nasional (BN) successfully defended the Bekok state seat and recaptured Tangkak from Pakatan Harapan (PH) after defeating the coalition in straight fights in the Johor state election today.
In Tangkak, BN candidate Datuk Haw Chin Teck secured victory with 14,010 votes, defeating PH's Ee Chin Li, who garnered 10,828 votes — a majority of 3,182 votes.
The win marked Haw's electoral debut and returned the seat to BN, which had been held by DAP under the PH banner.
Meanwhile, in Bekok, incumbent Tan Chong retained the seat for BN with 10,230 votes, comfortably ahead of PH's Tay Yok Jiuen, who polled 5,967 votes — a majority of 4,263 votes, an improvement on his winning margin from the previous state election.
Both constituencies saw straight fights between BN and PH, with no Perikatan Nasional candidate contesting either seat.
The Johor state election was called following the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly on June 1, with a total of 172 candidates contesting 56 state seats.
