THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) held an individual over a parcel purportedly containing 743 grams of suspected raw ecstasy with an estimated street value of P3,157,750 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), an agency official said on Saturday.
BOC-NAIA district collector Yasmin Mapa said the seizure of the illegal drugs was carried out in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
In her report to BOC Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno, Mapa said the contraband was seized at the Central Mail Exchange Center inside the airport on Sept. 25.
Also, Mapa said the operation resulted in the arrest of an unnamed claimant who appeared at the Express Mail Service Window to collect the parcel.
Citing records, she said the package was declared to contain bags and backpacks, children’s clothing, chocolates and confectionery, kids’ toys, supplements and footwear including shoes and slippers.
The top BOC-NAIA official said the parcel arrived from Canada on Sept. 15.
Customs personnel discovered the suspected illegal drugs concealed inside the shipment upon examination, said Mapa, adding that further details would be released as they become available.
