SABAH BEGAN their Group B men’s futsal campaign at the Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in style as thrashed Perak 6-0 on Saturday.

They dominated the game right from the start. Amirul Fadzly Iyskandar Ilrawan found the net, giving Sabah an early lead in the 15th minute. This advantage was quickly doubled in the 22nd minute as Muhamad Alias Abdullah scored the second. Adzman Jiril then added a goal in the 27th minute.

Not resting on their laurels, Muhamad Alias Abdullah returned to score his second goal just before halftime in the 28th minute for the team to take a 4-0 lead at half time.

Sabah maintained their momentum in the second half. Adzman scored again in the 36th minute for his second of the match and Mohammad Adziyyan Ahlihin Zaidi, bringing the final tally to 6-0 completed the scoring in the 40th minute.

The victory also provides Sabah with a favorable position in Group B, which includes Perak and Selangor, with goal difference playing a crucial role in their campaign.

Meanwhile, the Sabah women’s futsal team faced a tough start in their Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) campaign, falling to Selangor 2-5 in their first Group B match held at the Shah Alam Youth and Sports Complex on Saturday.

The host backed by home support made their intentions clear early in the game, taking the lead in the fifth minute with a goal from Nur Shadrina Ahmad Johari.

The home team’s momentum continued as Thivyashini A/P Jegatesan doubled their advantage in the 14th minute. Just three minutes later, Nur Shadrina scored again in the 17th minute.

Despite the early setbacks, Sabah managed to respond with a goal from Ara Tasyah Ramle in the 18th minute, giving the team a glimmer of hope. However, Selangor maintained control of the match, extending their lead with additional goals from Nur Hazellya Darwisyah Noran in the 27th minute and Nur Dhiyaa Addin Mohd Azhari in the 34th minute.

Sabah found the net again with another goal from Ara Tasyah, but it was not enough to change the outcome.

Sabah’s head coach, Rosmadih Wasli acknowledged the pressure his team felt, especially with the presence of a large home crowd.

He pointed out that several mistakes, including defensive lapses and goalkeeper errors, contributed to the defeat.

“The players were nervous when facing the host. As a result, several mistakes were made by our defense and goalkeeper,” he noted.
