Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross admits his Germany call-up came as a surprise.
Gross could now make his international debut at 32 years of age with friendlies against Japan and France awaiting this week.
"I was also surprised. I have not been in contact with the national coach," Gross told Kicker.
"I am very happy to be here. I have always said that it is a dream to play in the national team. Right now I'm living my dream.
"It is very exciting."
