
MANILA, Philippines — Barangay Ginebra’s dynamic duo of Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos scored a clean sweep of the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup top individual honors after capturing the Best Import and Best Player of the Conference respectively.
The resident Ginebra reinforcement captured his fourth Best Import award, making him the oldest player to win the plum named after the late legendary import Bobby Parks, Sr.
The 38-year-old Brownlee continues to wow PBA and Ginebra fans alike with his all-around game and hardwork as he beat Rain or Shine counterpart Jaylen Johnson, TNT’s Chris McCullough and Meralco’s Patrick Gardner for the award.
Brownlee zoomed to the leaderboard of the statistical race after the semifinals behind semis 50.5 SPs.
The concurrent Gilas naturalized player, who is eyeing his seventh PBA title, averaged solid per-game stats line of 29.5 points, 9.8 rebounds, 6.1 assists, 1.67 steals, and 1.3 blocks during the semis.
Meanwhile, Abarrientos captured his first-ever Best Player award as he beat stats leader Robert Bolick of NLEX, PBA nine-time Most Valuable Player June Fajardo of San Miguel Beer, Ricci Rivero of Phoenix and Jerrick Ahanmisi of Terrafirma.
The top individual award was fitting for the 26-year-old reigning PBA Rookie of the Year, thanks to his awe-inspiring performance throughout the conference, and highlighted by back-to-back 30-point efforts in Ginebra’s victories in Games 5 and 6 to help Ginebra beat Rain or Shine, 4-2 in their semis series.
The former Far Eastern U standout averaged 22.0 points on 49.7-percent shooting from the field, along with 3.67 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.5 steals in the semis.
