PAPAR: A joint operation by Papar and Kota Kinabalu police saw the arrest of three men – believed involved in burglaries and car thefts – in Kota Kinabalu, on Thursday.
District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were detained following a police report lodged on Sunday (Sept 18).
Quoting the report, he said the complainant woke up in the morning (on the day the report was lodged) and found his house’s front gate had been forced open and home ransacked.
Several documents, a laptop, a mobile phone, a watch, car keys and cash were reported stolen, as well as a Ford Ranger vehicle parked in his house compound.
Upon receiving the report, an operation was immediately conducted to track down the suspects.
“On Thursday morning at about 9.15am, teams from the Papar and Kota Kinabalu Criminal Investigation Department went to a location near Lucky Height Condominium, Likas.
“Following observation and monitoring, police identified three male individuals close to the vehicle that was reported stolen.
“The teams approached the men, prompting one of the them to flee the scene, but was detained,” he said.
Based on initial investigations, Kamaruddin said the suspects admitted to their criminal activities.
Several items belonging to the suspects such as mobile phones and the four-wheel-drive vehicle were confiscated.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 and 379A of the Penal Code.
Kamaruddin reminded the public to continue playing their role in channelling information to authorities in the event of any criminal activities as well as keeping their homes’ secured at all times.
