A MOTHER was left touched after a cashier at a 99 Speedmart outlet stepped in to pay the RM18 shortfall on her grocery bill when she realised she did not have enough money to complete her purchase.

Eva Asheeny shared the moment on Threads, saying the cashier, Nurul, offered to use her own money after noticing her situation.

Eva said she had gone to the store to buy essential items for her child, including milk, diapers, bread and instant noodles, using the RM100 credit available through her MyKad.

However, while shopping, she realised her child had outgrown XL-sized diapers and needed XXL instead.

The brand she initially picked was not covered under the credit scheme, forcing her to choose another eligible option.

After the items were scanned, the total came to RM118.

Without any extra cash with her, Eva asked the cashier if two cheaper items could be removed from her purchase.

She was told the supervisor was not around and that removing the items would take some time.

That was when Nurul, another cashier at the outlet, offered to cover the remaining amount.

Eva said the cashier attending to her even clarified that the balance was RM18 and not RM1.80, but Nurul still agreed to help.

The small gesture left Eva grateful, saying she wanted to thank the cashier for her kindness.

She later returned with her husband to give Nurul a gift for her kindness.

The post has since drawn attention online, with many praising the act as an example of everyday compassion that can make a difference, especially during moments when someone needs a helping hand. – August 9, 2026
