Celebrity Traitors star reacts to being branded an 'accidental sex symbol'

James Acaster has revealed he is enjoying being fancied since appearing on The Celebrity Traitors, saying it is “quite nice”.

The 41-year-old comedian is one of the traitors on the hit BBC game show, taking up the role alongside TV presenter Maya Jama and content creator King Kenny.

Fans have been making compilation videos of Acaster since the series began, and Patrick Kielty, presenter of The Late Late Show, has described him as becoming an “accidental sex symbol”.

Acaster was recruited to join the murderous bunch in the turret, but described himself as a reluctant traitor. He has continued to play as if he were a faithful, in the hopes of flying under the radar and avoiding suspicion.

He said: “I think what I proved is that you don’t have to be anything in particular to be a traitor. The way that I chose to do it was just by behaving as I was planning to, which was as a faithful.

“I’ve always watched the show and thought that, and thought, why are you getting made traitors and then going around lying to everyone and then being like devious and then they figure out it’s you.

“Why not just go around and play the game as a faithful, and then they won’t have anything to go off of. So that’s the way I chose to play it.”

Speaking on the Vinylly Retentive podcast about the newfound attention, he said: “Great. It’s fine. It’s nice.

“I’m 41. I’ve spent the last few years since lockdowns being like, ‘well, that’s it, over for me, no one’s ever going to fancy me again’. So it was it was quite a nicer turn of events to be fancied on Traitors.”

Acaster’s comments come ahead of the final two episodes of this year’s show being aired on the BBC this week.

The penultimate episode will be shown on Thursday, before what promises to be a gripping finale on Friday, where the 2026 Celebrity Traitors winner will be crowned.

As things stand, Acaster remains in the mix for that honour, alongside fellow traitors Maya Jama and King Kenny.
