
The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chamba, on Friday organised an awareness programme at the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Lachori, under “Legal Services to Mentally Ill Persons and Persons with Intellectual Disabilities Scheme, 2024”, an initiative of National Legal Services Authority.
The programme aimed to create awareness among students and the general public about mental health, intellectual disabilities, legal rights of affected persons and the availability of free legal aid services.
Addressing the participants Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel, Chamba, Naveen Singh Thakur, elaborated on the provisions of the NALSA Scheme, rights of mentally ill and intellectually disabled persons, free legal aid services and key provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act.
He also urged all participants to help spread awareness about mental health in society and contribute towards reducing stigma associated with mental illnesses.
