Kota Kinabalu: Budget 2027 should provide targeted allocations to strengthen healthcare in Sabah, particularly in staffing, facilities and access to treatment, said Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin (pic).Chan, who is also Sabah dAP Deputy Chairman, said patients and their families needed prompt attention, timely access to specialist treatment and healthcare services without having to travel long distances.
He said the Government should introduce a dedicated package to attract and retain healthcare professionals in Sabah, including better incentives, accommodation, hardship allowances, relocation assistance and specialist training opportunities.
Chan also called for targeted funding to upgrade hospitals and clinics, provide essential equipment and maintenance, strengthen healthcare services in rural and remote areas, and expand training, scholarships and specialist pathways for Sabahans.
He said allocations should take into account Sabah’s geography and the cost of delivering healthcare across dispersed communities, with clear implementation timelines and measurable outcomes such as filled vacancies, functioning equipment and shorter waiting times.
