
The Directorate of Census Operations here has successful completed of the house listing for the Census 2027 in the city. According to officials, all 2,054 blocks have been covered, achieving 100% coverage.
Navjot Khosa, Director of Census Operations, Chandigarh; and Nishant Kumar Yadav, Principal Census Officer, Chandigarh, appreciated the commitment and hard work of all officers and field staff involved in the exercise.
They also acknowledged the cooperation extended by residents of Chandigarh, which they said significantly contributed to the successful completion of this important national exercise. This phase will be followed by population count in February next year.
Under the exercise, more than 2,250 Census workers have been assigned the task of visiting households across Chandigarh.
They gathered information based on a detailed questionnaire comprising 33 parameters.
In Phase–II, population enumeration (PE) has been scheduled for February 2027.
The focus during the house listing was on housing conditions, amenities and assets. This phase will form the basis for the second phase of population enumeration.
Earlier, self-enumeration was conducted from April 16 to 30. During that phase, the residents were afforded the opportunity to record their own demographic and household particulars.
A total of 6,028 self-enumerations were successfully completed by residents of Chandigarh.
The Census 2027 will be the 16th Census in India and the 8th after the Independence.
