Mayor Saurabh Joshi today chaired a high-power meeting with Municipal Commissioner Amit Kumar, Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineer and senior officers of Municipal Corporation (MC) to review and discuss several civic issues concerning the city and functioning of MC departments.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding strengthening of the city’s sanitation system with special focus on scientific waste management, door-to-door garbage collection, implementation of new MSW Rules-2026 and improving cleanliness standards across all sectors, villages and colonies of Chandigarh. The Mayor directed officers to ensure strict monitoring of sanitation services and timely redress of public complaints.

Special emphasis was also laid on the welfare of safai karmacharis and other MC employees, including their job security. The Mayor stressed upon improving working conditions, timely availability of safety equipment, welfare facilities and resolution of pending employee-related issues.

The meeting also reviewed the proposed overhaul of the paid parking system in Chandigarh. Discussions were held regarding implementation of smart parking solutions in major parking sites across the city.

Issues related to street vendors and their rehabilitation were also discussed in detail. The Mayor directed the officers concerned to ensure proper vending zones, better facilities and systematic regulation while safeguarding the livelihood of genuine vendors.

The Chief Engineer and engineering wings presented updates regarding ongoing and proposed development works related to B&R, Public Health, Horticulture and Electricity departments.
