Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Charlayne Chong representing Malaysia Golf Association (MGA) emerged victorious in the 36th Sarawak Classic Championship held at the Samarahan Country Club last weekend.
She claimed the Datin Patinggi Puan Sri Datuk Wira Lorna Enan Muloon Chan’s Challenge Trophy by taking the ladies gross title with a three-day total of 236.
Second place went to Bernice Hwang Ee Xuan (239) followed by Livia Lau Kiew Lin (254).
It was a timely boost before her next outing at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championship (WATC) to be held in Singapore early next month.
She has earlier been named in the three-member national squad led by reigning Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific champion Jeneath Wong and the other member is 2023 SEA Games bronze medallist Foong Zi Yu.
The title won on Sunday was also her third this year after capturing the UUM (Universiti Utara Malaysia) Open and the 48th Kelantan Amateur Open Golf Championship in July.
She also finished a credible third in the Royal Selangor Golf Club (RSGC) Ladies Amateur Open in early August behind Indonesian Bianca Naomi Laksono and Filipina Samantha Dizon.
