Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor inspecting the construction of 20 elevated Rumah Mesra Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) units being built in a cluster at Kampung Perpaduan Ria 2, on Saturday.
Construction began in August and is expected to be completed by the end of this year, at a cost of RM95,000 per unit.
Accompanying Hajiji were Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, State Rural Development Minister Datuk Rubin Balang, State Assistant Finance Minister and Tanjong Kapor assemblyman Datuk Ben Chong, and senior government officials.
Rumah Mesra SMJ is a Sabah Government initiative to assist low-income households, the poor, owners of dilapidated homes and those without homes of their own, subject to the stipulated eligibility criteria.
The programme is implemented across all 73 state constituencies as part of the government’s efforts to improve public welfare by providing more comfortable and safer homes for those in need.
For 2026, the government increased the Rumah Mesra SMJ construction quota from 40 to 50 units per constituency, including an additional 10 units specifically for married young people aged 40 and below who do not yet own a home.
