China-Sabah short film contest closing date extended to February 28

Kota Kinabalu: The 5th China-Sabah Short Film Competition organised by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, in collaboration with Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA), has extended its closing date for the contest from Jan 31 to Feb 28.

The extended period came after it received attention and support of enthusiastic friends from all walks of life in Sabah since its launch.

In order to ensure that everyone has sufficient time for video shooting and post-production works, as to uncover better and moving stories of exchanges and cooperation between China and Sabah in various fields, the closing date for the contest will be extended from January 31 to February 28.

The 5th China-Sabah Short Film Competition with a total of RM35,000 cash prizes, calling for professional and amateur filmmakers who best depict the touching stories that feature the cooperation and enduring friendship between China and Sabah from different perspectives, such as close relations between Sabahans and Chinese citizens and the preservation of Chinese cultures in Sabah.

The films can be of any genre, including but not limited to, documentary, drama and digital animation.

This year’s competition differs from those held in the previous years. It maintained the short film category, and added a TikTok category to attract more people to join the competition. Scan QR code to download entry form.

For short film category, submissions shall not exceed five minutes, participants are required to fill in the entry form and upload their short films to YouTube.com, set as unlisted and provide the link to the organizer along with the entry form via email to [email protected]

For TikTok category, submissions shall not exceed one minute, participants are required to fill in the entry form and upload their videos to TikTok account and use the hashtag #chinasabahtiktok, and provide the link to the organiser along with the entry form via email to [email protected]

Entry form can be downloaded via QR code or visit https://bit.ly/3D2513v. Contestants in the short film category can submit only one (1) video, while those in the TikTok category can submit up to three (3) videos. Participants can participate in both the short film and the TikTok categories.

For the Short Films Category, 1 Gold Award, 3 Silver Awards, 5 Bronze Awards and a number of Consolation Awards will be given as follows: Gold Award: RM3,000 cash and trophy, Silver Award: RM2,000 cash and trophy, Bronze Award: RM1,500 cash and trophy, Consolation Award: RM500 cash and trophy.

For TikTok category, 1 Gold Award, 5 Silver Awards, 10 Bronze Awards and a number of Consolation Awards will be given as follows: Gold Award: RM1,000 cash and certificate, Silver Award: RM800 cash and certificate, Bronze Award: RM500 cash and certificate, Consolation Award: RM300 cash and certificate.
