
MANILA, Philippines — CJ Cansino scored six of his team’s last 10 points as Meralco beat a gritty Macau side, 115-110 to grab solo second spot in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup on Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The Black Knights engaged the Bolts to a neck-and-neck affair where the game was marked by 10 deadlocks and 13 lead changes.
After Cansino’s jump shot gave Meralco a 107-106 lead, Phoenix Shackleford responded with his own three-point shot heading into the last four minutes that gave Macau a three-point lead.
Cansino went on to score back-to-back two-point baskets to give the Bolts the lead for good at 111-109. Import Marvin Jones and Jansen Rios combined for four points as opposed to the Black Knights’ solitary free throw inside the last two minutes to seal the Bolts' victory.
Meralco moved up to 5-1, just behind Rain or Shine’s pristine 6-0 card.
Macau stayed at the bottom with its six straight loss in as many games.
Jones led the Bolts with 32 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks.
Cansino wound up with 23 and seven boards, while Jason Brickman and Chris Newsome tallied 13 and 12, respectively for Meralco.
Shackelford led the Black Knights with 29 points, Jenning Leung 21, while Ramon Can chipped in 20.
