KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) development plan over the past five years has proven the state government’s ability to restore the economy, strengthen development and safeguard people’s wellbeing.

He said the people’s mandate since September 2020 had been fully utilised through comprehensive development programmes, countering views that SMJ was only a slogan.

Hajiji recalled that when the government took over in September 2020, Sabah was facing its worst economic crisis, but careful planning under SMJ 1.0 helped revive growth and boost economic performance.

He said Sabah is now rapidly developing with a more diverse economy, expanding tourism, plantations, forestry and petroleum beyond reliance on natural resources alone.

According to him, SMJ is a long-term strategic plan that covers human capital, resource management and administrative efficiency, while also addressing poverty and improving living standards.

He highlighted significant achievements including stronger state revenue, higher investments and more than RM1.3 billion allocated from 2021 to 2024 for education and youth development.

Hajiji called on Sabahans to preserve harmony, uphold unity and continue working together to build a more prosperous, inclusive future for the state, as the Sabah Day 2025 celebration was officiated by Head of State Tun Musa Aman.
