Cody Rhodes is in the midst of the best run of his professional wrestling career, but the WWE superstar already has plans in place for life away from the squared circle.

Since returning to the company following a spell with AEW, Rhodes has cemented himself as one of the biggest stars in wrestling, arguably only behind a few names such as Roman Reigns.

Cody will now face Gunther at Clash in Italy this weekend, and while speaking to the media in the lead-up to the event, he has revealed he’d like to step further into the acting world post-WWE.

Cody Rhodes eyes more acting roles after WWE career is over

Wrestlers swapping combat sports for Hollywood has become much more common in recent years.

The Rock has been a movie star for some time, while John Cena has become an established actor, and Batista has had some major roles within the Marvel franchise and beyond.

Now, when appearing on The Rich Eisen Show as part of his promotion for Clash in Italy, Rhodes spoke about his upcoming appearance in the Street Fighter movie.

The WWE champion went on to say he’d like to ‘do more of that’ but stressed ‘that’ll come when this [wrestling] is done’.

He said: “I definitely want to grow beyond telling stories in the ring. I got the opportunity to do Street Fighter, it comes out this October. Kitao Sakurai directed this movie. I saw bits of it the other day. I think it’s going to be a huge hit. I hope it is, because I had such a fun time making it.

“I want to do more of that. What we do in the ring is tell stories. I’d love to do it outside of falling down in the pro-wrestling ring, but that’ll come when this is done. Everyone who carried the actual main title in the industry has to carry it with the responsibility that comes with it, and the responsibility has a timeline on it. Keeping this as long as I can is the immediate goal.”

Cody Rhodes speaks out on facing Gunther at Clash in Italy

For the time being, though, Cody’s immediate focus will be on defending his Undisputed WWE Championship on May 31.

Gunther and Rhodes have only ever faced off in singles competition once previously at Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, back in 2024.

Cody came out on top on that occasion and has now warned the former Intercontinental Champion that he’s not ready for their match this weekend.

In the same interview, he commented: “There’s guys who history-wise, Terry Gordy, Bam Bam Bigelow, Vader, is probably the best example. Gunther has that skill and when he walks into a room, you see how physically impressive he is, and he has a whole style to him that’s different from anybody else in the game.

“But these are the type of matches he hasn’t been in in a while. He’s been in nostalgia matches.

“Goldberg, AJ Styles, as he was leaving the company. John Cena retiring after I’d already beat John Cena. I think this is a prize fight. It’s a different type of match, and it’s not one he’s ready for.”
