Campaigning for the upcoming elections to the Palampur Municipal Corporation gathered momentum on Wednesday as Mukesh Agnihotri conducted an extensive outreach programme across various wards of the town, seeking support for Congress candidates and projecting development as the party’s central poll plank.
Addressing a series of public meetings, Agnihotri appealed to voters to elect Congress nominees to ensure continuity in development works, improved civic amenities and better urban infrastructure in Palampur. He said the Congress-led municipal body had undertaken several developmental initiatives over the past five years, significantly improving the town’s civic landscape through planned urban development projects.
Highlighting the achievements of the municipal corporation, the Deputy Chief Minister said a majority of internal roads in Palampur had been upgraded with paver tiles, improving both connectivity and the overall appearance of the town. He added that the Congress administration had also focused on sanitation, drainage systems, street lighting and beautification projects, which had contributed to making Palampur a cleaner and more organised urban centre.
Agnihotri asserted that the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh remained committed to strengthening urban infrastructure and ensuring balanced development across municipal areas. According to him, sustained efforts by Congress representatives in the civic body as well as the state government had helped Palampur emerge as one of the better planned towns in the region. He said additional development projects would be undertaken in the coming years if Congress was voted back to power in the municipal corporation.
Launching a political attack on the BJP, Agnihotri accused the opposition party of indulging in “negative politics” and attempting to mislead the public on developmental issues. He claimed that while Congress focused on development-oriented governance, the BJP was relying largely on criticism without offering constructive alternatives. He added that the state government was prioritising improvements in roads, water supply, waste management and public welfare infrastructure in urban areas.
During the campaign, Agnihotri also interacted with residents, traders and party workers while senior Congress leaders and councillors accompanied him in different wards ahead of the keenly watched civic polls.
