The Congress suffered a political setback in the Amritsar (rural) constituency on Saturday with Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Amritsar rural president Gulzar Singh Khalsa joining Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) along with his supporters here.
The induction took place in the presence of Tarsem Singh, father of Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh. Welcoming the new entrants, Tarsem Singh said Punjab’s youth and farmers had become disillusioned with traditional political parties, prompting people to align themselves with what he described as a genuine Panthic and Punjab-centric regional political movement.
He said Waris Punjab De was a movement fighting for the rights of Punjab, the progress of the Sikh community, and the future of the youth.
He added that people from various sections of society, including leaders from different political parties, were increasingly joining the organisation. Khalsa said he was influenced by the “fearless and Punjab-oriented ideology” of MP Amritpal. He added that he would now work with dedication to strengthen the outfit, and contribute to the welfare of the state.
Among those who joined along with Khalsa were Sutnam Singh Khurmanian, Giani Arjan Singh Khalsa, Parmjit Singh Khalsa, Mukhtiar Singh Chakk Mukand, and Jagjit Singh Khalsa.
