TAWAU: A suspect with eight previous criminal records was arrested for having two kilogrammes of syabu in Bandar Sri Indah on Thursday.

Police estimated the drugs in the 6pm bust to be worth RM130,000. He faces death if found guilty. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 53-year-old local was stopped while driving a four-wheel-drive.

“Inspections inside the vehicle led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packages containing the drugs weighing 2,076.66gm.

“The drugs are believed to be meant for distribution in Tawau and its surrounding markets and enough to supply 4,000 addicts at any given time,” he told a press conference here, Friday.

Jasmin said the raid was carried out in collaboration with a team from the Sabah Police Contingent Narcotics Crime Investigation Department.

“A urine test on the suspect confirmed he was positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. The man is unemployed and four of his criminal records are drug-related,” he said.

Jasmin said the suspect is currently being remanded for seven days and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Police are currently investigating if the case is connected to the network of identified drug syndicates and as to where the supply was sourced.

“Distributing, possessing or abusing drugs is an offence and the police welcome the cooperation and information of the public to jointly combat such activities,” he said.
