Police have confirmed that a robbery at a goldsmith shop in a Kajang shopping center on June 17 resulted in losses estimated at RM3.2 million.

Kajang deputy police chief Superintendent Mohamad Nasir Drahman stated that seven individuals, including employees of the goldsmith shop, have been questioned to aid the investigation. “We will summon several other witnesses to provide statements soon,” he added in a statement on June 18.

Media reports described the incident occurring at 3:17 p.m. on the first floor of the shopping center on June 17. Four masked men, disguised as security guards and wearing gloves, entered the premises. Armed with two pistols, a shotgun, and a hammer, they proceeded to smash the glass display cases and steal various jewelry items.

The suspects also fired a warning shot at a wall inside the shop before making their escape through the basement parking area.

“We are working diligently to gather all necessary information and bring those responsible to justice,” Nasir said. “The suspects’ brazen approach and use of firearms highlight the serious nature of this crime.”

Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or has any information related to the incident to come forward. “Community cooperation is crucial in solving this case,” Nasir emphasized.

This robbery has shocked the local community, prompting increased security measures in shopping centers across the area. The police have assured the public that they are taking all possible steps to ensure safety and prevent future incidents.

The investigation is ongoing, with police urging vigilance and caution. Witnesses or anyone with pertinent information can contact the Kajang district police headquarters to assist in the investigation.

This incident underscores the importance of robust security measures in commercial establishments to deter such daring criminal activities.
