Kota Kinabalu: The management of the Tai Chi Pavilion in Taman Ujana Rimba Tropika here will be taken over by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK).
Deputy Director General (Operations) Robert Lipon and Kota Kinabalu Funei Li Style Taiji Association Sabah President, Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw, recently reached a consensus on the matter.
During the meeting, Liaw explained to Robert how the pavilion came about.
He said the idea to build the pavilion arose when he noticed that taiji practitioners were unable to train whenever it rained.
Liaw said he had approached the then Youth and Sports Minister, Phoong Jin Zhe, to request the construction of the pavilion for taiji practitioners.
Phoong, who is also Luyang Assemblyman, allocated funds from the Assemblyman’s allocation to build the pavilion, which was completed in February 2020.
The flooring was also repainted to provide a comfortable practice space for taiji enthusiasts, Liaw said.
Following that, other exercise enthusiasts – including dancing and self-defence groups – also expressed interest in using the pavilion.
Liaw said they have no objection to allowing other exercise groups to use the pavilion when its members are not using it, and it is free of charge.
However, the taiji association will be given priority in using the pavilion and will draw up a schedule to be submitted to City Hall.
City Hall will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the pavilion and its toilets, ensuring that they remain in good condition.
Liaw also highlighted to City Hall that six streetlights in the park are no longer functioning and expressed hope that they will be repaired as soon as possible.
