Netflix’s hit movie KPop Demon Hunters has become a cultural phenomenon, transcending borders, topping music charts, and becoming Netflix’s most watched animated film. Even though it is an animated film, it has proven its influence on fashion. The singing voices of demon slaying divas HUNTR/X — EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna are now performing on-stage and like their animated personas, they have become fashion inspirations to all. Here’s a breakdown of EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna’s fashion styles and how they are shaping the KPDH universe.

EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna don’t just show up in style to perform; the trio also dress in coordinated, beautifully-styled, outfits to match the vibe of their on-screen characters when making appearances together. Most of their looks include Y2K and goth elements, with many of their on-stage looks done in black. While the trio rely strongly on monochrome outfits, they never look boring, and instead capture a post-dystopian aesthetic.

How KPop Demon Hunters singers EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna’s style is influencing the fashion scene

EJAE

EJAE, the South Korean singer-songwriter who sang Rumi’s parts in the movie mostly carries a “boss lady” vibe with moody colours channeling the dark-pop energy of the movie’s soundtrack. During performances, she often wears her hair in a sleek high ponytail.

For an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, EJAE appeared in a deconstructed pinstriped suit from Mugler. Styled by Kate Li, the outfit featured side lace up slits, which gave the suit an unconventional silhouette, while metallic piercings on the trousers provided attention-grabbing detail. For the performance on The Tonight Show, EJAE wore a strapless Miaou corset over a sheer, long-sleeve mesh top, paired with wide-leg leather trousers and platform shoes. With different textures blended together, it created a beautiful feminine aesthetic.

At the CFDA Awards, EJAE looked stunning in a custom distressed denim gown by Zac Posen for Gap. During her appearance on Late Night with Seth Myers, she sported a black gown by the brand Aniye Records, a look that was cohesive with her previous outfits, but yet exuded royal energy. But her ultimate “Golden” look came during her appearance at the Academy Museum gala, where she wore a beautiful brown mesh gown with golden details. For this look, she also ditched her iconic high pony and went with a half bun hairstyle instead.

As the centrepiece of an all-black performance ensemble at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the singer referenced Rumi’s signature lavender hair colour by wearing a whimsical, big, fuzzy purple headband.

Rei Ami

The youngest member of HUNTR/X, Zoey’s parts are sung by the Korean American singer and rapper Rei Ami. Her costumes have an edgy chic vibe and incorporate different materials like net or denim to create beautiful textures and silhouettes. She also wears pops of colours in her looks, in contrast to EJAE who is often seen in muted tones. Like her character Zoey, Rei Ami also wears her hair in double buns for her group interviews.

For performances, she often wears all black ensembles to match with the group, such as when she wore a custom-made outfit by designers Mary Witch and Yeha Leung at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Styled by Marisa Ellison, the outfit featured a short corset dress with a visible crystal-embellished bra underneath which she paired with Thom Solo long boots. But for the show segment, she ditched the all-black theme and donned a red Duran Lantink jacket and a black balloon miniskirt with Rombaut boots.

For Heidi Klum’s Halloween party, Rei Ami iconically dressed as her character, Zoey, wearing playful, patchwork parachute pants look with a crop top inspired by Zoey’s outfit during the song “How It’s Done”. The outfit was custom made by Roderick Reyes.

For the trio’s VMA appearance, Ami constructed her outfit with pieces by Seks Dolls, Diesel, and Vivienne Westwood. She sported a black fringe miniskirt with a large belt and a cropped black top, which was almost concealed by her fuzzy burgundy fur wrap. The singer complemented her attire with a pair of black strapped ankle boots.

Audrey Nuna

An American singer and rapper, Audrey Nuna is the youngest member in the trio who sang the parts of Mira in KPDH. Nuna has worked with stylist Sophie Yoon for many of her looks. Her style is streetwear-meets-classic glamour, with some edgy and boho elements. Like her on-screen character Mira, Audrey also has long hair, which she mostly kept in braids during the press tour.

Although EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna all have their own stylists, it’s amazing how their outfits coordinate, allowing them to look cohesive as a group. Nuna also kept the dark, all-black palette intact for the group’s “goth-glam” fashion across the press tour, including at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade performance.

Nuna frequently wears edgy, modern pieces with specific cuts and embellishments that elevate her looks, giving them a futuristic vibe. From sophisticated to all-drama, her looks have range, like her character. Notably, she appeared at the VMAs wearing a floor-length black puffer jacket over a leather halter minidress and chunky cuffed black boots referencing her on-screen character Mira’s sleeping bag costume. She wore her hair up, in two sculptural twisted loops to complement the overall look.

During the interview on The Tonight Show, she wore a black and white dress, with a billowy, dramatic skirt and a leather top. She styled it with pink ribbon boots by South Korean brand Ssimeez. While performing on the show, she changed into an all-black ensemble by Shawna Wu, paired with shoes by Kashiko.
