In a Facebook post recently, Dr Mahathir reportedly said the choice of Malay voters at the ballot box would determine the future of the country and to ensure the country remain as ‘Tanah Melayu’, he called for Malay voters to vote for the Malay candidate regardless of their loyalty to political parties or NGOs in the PRN in Johor on 11 July 2026.

The PRN in Johor, the 16th, on July 11 will feature 172 candidates vying for 56 seats.

Out of the total 56 seats up for contest, the following 11 seats does not have a Malay candidate while the contest for the other 45 seats have, at least a Malay, competing.

11 seats probably do not matter as one need to win 29 seats.

Aside from having at least a Malay candidate, the contests in the 45 seats are a fight between BN, PH, PN (PAS + Bersatu), MUDA and Bersama.

At the present juncture, BN and the 2 parties in PN, PAS and Bersatu, has stated clearly that they would not invite and form a government with PH.

If all 3 followed through and are not cooperating or collaborating post the election and assuming none manage to secure at least 29 seats on their own to form a government, these 11 seats will play a crucial role in determining who gets to form the next government in Johor.

Dr Mahathir only advised the Malay voters to vote for Malay candidates but he did not advise the Malay voters who they shall vote for in seats where there are no Malay candidates such as these 11 seats.
