PAPAR: Five men believed to be involved in drug trafficking were arrested in Kampung Silat, Bongawan, after police seized 87.22g of suspected syabu.
Sabah JSJN chief Assistant Commissioner Alhusin Halil said the arrests followed a public complaint made through the department’s official Facebook page.
He said in the first case, two local men aged 20 and 43 were detained after police found a large packet and 64 smaller packets containing substances suspected to be syabu, weighing 32.87g in total.
The raid, carried out under Op Gempur Khas by a Sabah JSJN team following the complaint, also uncovered two air rifles and an object resembling a pistol at the house.
Alhusin said the two suspects were also found in possession of a bag containing the suspected drugs, estimated to be worth RM2,000, while three mobile phones were seized.
“Initial screening found both suspects tested positive for drugs and the case is being investigated under Section 39A (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
In a separate case, three local men aged between 21 and 24 were detained after one of them was found in possession of 48 plastic packets of various sizes containing 54.35g of suspected syabu. The drugs, estimated to be worth RM3,000, were seized together with a mobile phone and a Perodua Myvi.
“The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Sections 8(a) and 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960,” he said.
Initial screening found one of the three suspects tested positive for drugs, while the other two tested negative. Alhusin said the two air rifles and the object resembling a pistol from the first case had been handed over to the investigating officer of the Criminal Investigation Division at Papar District Police Headquarters for further action.
Remand applications were made against all five suspects, while the seized drugs will be sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.
“Intelligence gathering and efforts to trace the source of the drug supply are still ongoing,” he said.
Meanwhile, in Beaufort, police arrested a man suspected of involvement in drug activities following intelligence gathering.
Beaufort District Police Chief Superintendent Champin Piuh confirmed the arrest, saying Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) personnel from Beaufort District Police Headquarters raided an unnumbered house in Kampung Pintas recently.
He said the suspect was taken to the Beaufort BSJND office for a urine screening after his arrest.
“Checks found that he tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Police said they would continue taking firm action against drug abuse and ensure those involved were dealt with under the law.
