PENAMPANG: Entertainment centres in the district remain a concern for drug-related activities, with police conducting monthly inspections to curb such activities, said Penampang District Police Headquarters Narcotics Division Chief ASP Bakar Jasa.
He said some entertainment premises were believed to be used for drug peddling, transaction and consumption activities.
He added that police uncovered cases involving substances such as liquid ecstasy, ecstasy pills and Erimin 5 in operations at entertainment centres.
“We conduct inspections every month, which are part of efforts to detect drug-related activities and take action against those involved,” he said, adding that some people in entertainment centres tested positive for drugs. Bakar said the inspections did not mean all entertainment venues were involved in drug-related activities.
“Nevertheless, we will continue with our efforts to detect and act against those found committing offences,” he said.
Bakar stressed that enforcement alone was not sufficient to address drug abuse, as families and the community also play an important in identifying and reporting suspicious activities to the police.
He urged the public to provide any information on suspected drug activities through appropriate channels, assuring that the identity of the informants would be kept confidential.
