Duo fined for taking syabu

Kota Kinabalu: Two man were fined a total of RM4,500 for taking syabu.

The accused, Mah Chun Wu@Edward, 51, and Abdul Aziz Musap, 21, pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin on Tuesday.

Mah was fined RM2,000 or jailed six months, while Abdul Aziz was fined RM2,500 or jailed seven months, placed two years under police supervision.

They were found taking the drug after their urine was tested positive at the police station here on Feb 22 and 28, this year.

The offence under Section 15(1)(A) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years in jail and up to two years under police supervision, on conviction.

In mitigation, the unrepresented duo requested a lenient sentence with Mah saying he has kids to look after.

Meanwhile, a woman was fined RM1,600 or jailed one month for having illegal 4D paraphernalia.

Aidahwaty Adnan pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to having unlicensed lottery gambling equipment, namely mobile phone, two pieces of small printed paper containing letters and numbers, one unit mini mobile printer, and RM110 in cash, at Kepayan Kopitiam, Taman Kepayan Ridge, at 5pm on March 9, this year.

The offence under Section 9(1) Common Gaming House Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to six months in jail, or both, on conviction.

The case facts stated that police and complainant kept the gambling premises under observation and surveillance.

They then approached the premises and found that the seized equipment tested positive for involvement in gambling activities.
