Kota Kinabalu: Two illegal foreigners were jailed seven months each for cutting a cable belonging to a Telecommunication company.

Nasir Masir and Mukmir Masit, both aged 32, pleaded guity separately before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to cutting the TM cable by the roadside of Jalan Saga, Kg Likas on March 23, this year.

The offence under Section 431A of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, upon arrival at the location, the police team, who raided the said place, arrested two men who were cutting the underground cable.

The duo were asked the duo to produce their identification documents but they failed to do so. The court ordered the illegals to serve the jail sentence from the date of their arrests.

After completing their jail sentence, the court ordered them referred to the Immigration Department for further action.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old woman was fined RM1,300 or jailed three months for engaging in gambling activities.

Suriani Raji pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to engaging in an online gambling via handphone in public, at the Dobi Coin Laundry Service, Taman Putera Jaya, Telipok.

The offence under Section 7(2) Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine up to RM5,000, or both, on conviction.

The facts of the case stated that when police approached the premises the complainant was found involved in online top-up gambling (JOL) activity.

Inspector Yusdi Basri prosecuted.
