Heavy rain, accompanied by a dust storm, lashed parts of the district on Thursday evening, creating widespread disruption. As soon as the storm began, electricity supply was immediately disrupted. There are also reports of several electricity poles being uprooted and trees being felled.
Although the rain brought relief from the intense heat prevailing over the past few days, it also caused significant damage to farmers.
Freshly planted paddy crops have been damaged and straw stored by farmers for cattle feed has been blown away. Farmers have reported heavy losses across multiple crops.
Tajinder Singh Rasulpur, a farmer from Rasulpur village, said a strong dusty wind blew for nearly half an hour, flattening crops and causing widespread damage.
He added that losses have also been reported in areas around Tarn Taran city and in remote villages such as Khalra, Ghariala, Khemkaran, Valtoha, Patti, Harike, Chohla Sahib and Sarai Amanat Khan.
Several electricity poles were found toppled at multiple locations, raising concerns about prolonged power outages in the affected areas.
