MANILA, Philippines — Tennis sensation Alex Eala overcame the challenge posted by Switzerland’s Rebeka Masarova to prevail 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, and advance to the final round at the 2026 Birmingham Open on a rainy Saturday afternoon at the Edgbaston Priory Club in England.
The semifinal clash was halted twice due to the heavy rains in England, where Eala was ahead 3-2 and again at 5-2 in the third frame.
The 21-year-old Eala, seeded No.1 in this WTA 125 tournament, took the first set with a 6-2 score card, but Masarova bounced back and stole the second frame with a 6-4 win.
Eala found her momentum in the third set despite the stoppage, finishing what she started, 6-3.
The Filipina is ranked No. 37 in the world, while the Swiss is ranked No. 132.
